“On The Sidewalk Bleeding” – Evan Hunter

Revision Tips for your exams

August 25, 2011

Hi guys, I’ll be posting some info about your exams over the next couple of weeks because as you know, your Mock Exam is on Monday 12 September, from 8.45 – 11.45am in the Performance Suite.

You need to revise for Short Written Texts, Visual Text, and Unfamiliar Texts.

Let’s look at Unfamiliar Texts…

Achievement Standard 1.3 – Respond critically to studied unfamiliar texts, 4 credits.

How to Revise:

* Review ALL your notes and responses on Unfamiliar Texts and practice answering exam questions at home, under assessment conditions.

* You should be reading for at least 20 minutes a day, from a wide variety of materials including non fiction and fiction writing; prose and poetry.

* Remember, song lyrics are full of language techniques which are employed for deliberate effect. Discuss and analyze your favourite songs with a friend.

* Find a favourite poem, make some unfamiliar text questions for it and bring it along to class to test us.

*Find an interesting advertisement in a newspaper or magazine and prepare some Unfamiliar Text questions about the verbal and visual language techniques used in the ad. Bring your test to class!
